SAPCI Code of Ethics
Members shall
- endeavour to extend public knowledge and appreciation of project controls and project controls achievements;
- conduct themselves with dignity and modesty, upholding the honour and dignity of their profession;
- act in all matters as a faithful agent or trustee for each employer or client;
- act fairly and justly toward vendors, contractors, employers and client and not accept any commissions or allowances from vendors or contractors, either directly or indirectly;
- inform their employer or client if they believe a project will not be successful, or if their professional judgement is overruled;
- undertake only those assignments for which they are competent and advise the employer or client to engage specialists where necessary and co-operate fully with specialists so engaged;
- treat information coming to them in the course of their assignments as confidential and l not use such information as a means of making personal profit and not disclose or use confidential information concerning the business affairs or technical processes of any present or former employer or client or bidder under evaluation, without consent, unless required by law;
- not duplicate for others, without express permission of the client(s), designs, calculations, sketches, etc., supplied to them by clients;
- not accept compensation - financial or otherwise - from more than one party for the same service, or for other services pertaining to the same work, without the consent of all interested parties;
- not engage in supplementary employment or consulting practice without the consent of their employer;
- not use equipment, supplies, laboratory, or office facilities of their employers to carry on outside private practice without the consent of their employers;
- not solicit a contract from a government body on which a principal officer or employee of their organisation serves as a member;
- avoid all known or potential conflicts of interest with their employers, clients, contractors and vendors and promptly inform their employers or clients of any business association, interests, or circumstances that could influence their judgement or the quality of their services;
- express an objective, truthful and professional opinion only when it is founded upon adequate knowledge of the facts, upon a background of technical competence, and upon honest conviction, when serving as expert witness;
- continue their professional development throughout their careers and provide opportunities for the professional development of those under their supervision.
